Original Post
Opportunity Hack is seeking volunteers to assist with the backlog of tasks for transitioning WIAL.org to a new website. With many participants returning to school, the team needs extra hands to help complete this important project. Interested individuals are encouraged to join the Summer WIAL Slack channel to get involved. This is a great opportunity to contribute to a meaningful nonprofit tech initiative.
Opportunity Hack celebrates Loop IT for completing the NMTSA website, transforming a hackathon idea into a live product. This success highlights the importance of perseverance, empathy, and skilled software engineering beyond the initial event. The journey from winning a hackathon to product launch requires dedicated volunteers committing months to the cause. Support and recognition from the community are encouraged via LinkedIn to spotlight these efforts.
The WiCS and Opportunity Hack Spring 2026 hackathon showcased strong technical achievements, particularly in AI feature integration, RBAC, and multilingual support. Judges praised the high technical bar across teams but noted common areas for improvement. These included deployment practices, data privacy concerns with LLMs, and ensuring presentations aligned clearly with working demos. This feedback will help teams optimize both their technology and storytelling for future hackathons.
Opportunity Hack reviewed all submissions for the WIAL problem statement from the WiCS × Opportunity Hack Spring 2026 hackathon. GlobeWIAL is recognized for strong UI and accessibility but lacked complete alignment with judging criteria. NaNpossible excelled in all judging areas with features like multi-tenant architecture, payment integration, voice accessibility, and AI chatbot, making them co-winners. Both teams will collaborate with Opportunity Hack to deliver useful, deployable solutions to nonprofit partner WIAL.
Opportunity Hack and WICS hosted a successful hackathon, and participants are encouraged to recognize their peers using an internal Slack Praise Bot. This tool lets you send messages of appreciation directly or publicly within Slack channels. Users fill out a simple form accessible via the /praise command to select the recipient and add a personalized message. Adding a vibe to the praise message adds extra flair to public or private kudos.
Attention all Opportunity Hack participants, if your team isn't listed, you might be in the wrong function call. We won't be judging teams whose problem statements we can't parse, so make sure to update your Slack channel with the correct problem. For those on the final judging list, you're all set to show if your code can run through the gauntlet without a glitch! Time to shake it off and push towards the driving solution for problems like the Nonprofit Client & Case Management Platform and the World Institute for Action Learning initiatives.
In true "We Are Never Getting Back Together" fashion, Opportunity Hack's team list for the 2026 Spring WiCS is now turbocharged with 26 teams innovating for nonprofits, leaving error 404 in the dust. Newbie teams like Dyad, Not So Cool, and Sync&Solve are ready to shake it off and dive into the tech universe. Each team has a dedicated Slack channel and their GitHub code repository is set for launch, encouraging members to collaborate seamlessly. Good luck to all teams—may your algorithms be efficient and your tech impact monumental!

Don't let this opportunity 404 — it's the only tech talk of the event! Be there or be square in those messy databases.
Attention, web tool wizards: If you're rocking out with website builders like Wix or Squarespace, your GitHub playlist should primarily feature documentation unless you've dropped some custom code beats, like a plugin masterpiece. Without custom coding, you'll be spinning just documentation tracks. However, should you unleash your inner coding genius and create a custom plugin or extension, those creative code snippets deserve a spotlight on your GitHub stage. So, let's keep the deliverables in harmony, whether you're remixing templates or crafting code originals!
In a plot twist even Taylor Swift would admire, Opportunity Hack has dropped new videos that are sure to make you hit rewind. Unlock the secrets to mentorship, judging criteria, and tool usage by checking out their YouTube links. Whether you're a newbie coder or have more layers of expertise than a perfectly engineered algorithm, these videos are your backstage pass to innovation. Got questions? Opportunity Hack has rolled out a nifty tool that allows volunteers to time-hop through their own contributions, tracking both planned and actual volunteer hours. In the world of job hunting, it's all about playing your cards right with those pesky ATS barriers. An engineer manager from Meta shares resume tips for making it past automated screenings: add specific dates, highlight impactful achievements, and detail your technical skills effectively. Emphasizing actions and results, rather than generic skill lists, is key to optimizing your resume for a human's scrutinizing eyes. Just as you'd debug code, continually refine your resume to ensure every line contributes to your career's uptime.
Amidst the echoes of R-E-S-P-E-C-T in the workplace, the article delves into the intricacies of performance reviews, emphasizing fair recognition of passion and impact. The writer recommends staying proactive year-round with impactful achievements, soliciting timely feedback, and preparing self-reviews that align with managerial formats. It's a reminder that knowledge of the review rhythm can help you hit the right notes and receive the accolades you deserve—Happy MLK Day!

Opportunity Hack has shared judging feedback from the top five teams to help others level up their coding skills, mostly highlighting areas such as documentation and security, demo quality, scalability, user interface, and technical architecture. Documentation needs more articulation on security measures and data privacy, while demos should follow criteria closely and showcase functional features effectively. Scalability and performance were hot topics, with judges emphasizing cost-effectiveness, and the UI/UX train needs a cleaner and more intuitive first-class ticket. Overall, teams that crafted robust technical architectures with AI/ML magic sprinkled in received positive nods.
Opportunity Hack 2024 marched forward with nonprofits teaming up with volunteer product managers for a cause more harmonious than a 90s R&B group. This year's lineup included organizations like PEEC, Nature's Edge Wildlife and Reptile Rescue, and the STEAM Superheroes, each pairing with their own tech maestro ready to not only code but rock the world of social impact. These partnerships are akin to creating a Taylor Swift x Green Day collaboration, delivering an unforgettable performance for community advancement. From heritage preservation to musically therapeutic interventions, Opportunity Hack continues to redefine the art of opportunity creation, one algorithm at a time.

Claude.ai's Artifacts feature has been successful in generating 99% of a style guide page from 3 iterations of uploading a React AboutUs page and styles. The process was efficient, with the tool maintaining consistent styling and creating a common format for the style guide. The ease and speed of generating the code was especially notable, taking less time than uploading images to a CDN.
At Opportunity Hack, we use GitHub forks for smoother and safer collaboration on projects. A fork is a copy of a repository that allows independent work on a project without affecting the original codebase, reducing the risk of breaking the main project. Once changes are ready, they can be integrated back into the original project through a pull request.
